Jacob is a writer specializing in culture, with a focus on classical music, literature, and food.
As an undergrad, Jacob developed a fascination with Russian literature and history. This lead him to move there for two years immediately after graduating. During these two years, he became fluent in Russian and worked as a reporter and editor for the English-language St. Petersburg Times. In addition to copy editing the paper, Jacob wrote several articles on concerts and local restaurants.
In 2011, Jacob returned to his hometown of New York City to complete a master’s in journalism at Columbia University, with a concentration on arts and culture. While in journalism school, he completed articles on local artists, theater, as well as a long essay on the protests that gripped Russia in the winter of 2011-2012. He completed his master’s in spring 2012.
He continues to reside in New York City, and takes full advantage of his hometown’s rich cultural scene. He regularly publishes concert reviews during New York’s concert season. His recent work also includes an essay on Thomas Hardy, and a piece on a luxury hotel in Santiago, Chile. He has boundless curiosity about all forms of culture.
During his free time, Jacob enjoys reading in Prospect Park, coffee and pastries, and Beethoven.
